List: Ten Songs For All The Single People On Valentine’s Day

By Caroline Meister

Valentine’s Day is almost here! Which means a lot of sweet gestures and overall feelings of happiness… unless you’re single. Then all you want to do is binge-watch The Office for the 100th time and eat Doritos (or maybe that’s just me). Either way, here are some songs to drown out all the love.

1.     “Fake Love” by Drake

Any Drake song is going to get you off your butt and dancing. It’s just a known fact. This song will do that and make you miss the back-stabbing friends you never had, a perfect two-in-one!! It also serves as a gentle reminder that not all love is how it seems on social media.

2.     “I’m The Best” by Nicki Minaj

This song is a great confidence booster, especially if you’ve been feeling down because you don’t have a significant other. Valentine’s Day is about all different kinds of love, and that includes self-love.

3.     “Godzilla” by With Confidence

Pop punk is there to fuel your anger, and this song, with its driving guitar riffs and steady drum, hits will do just that. It’s a good vengeful anthem. The chorus practically screams “screw you.” Put this one on full blast.

4.     “Too Much” by Kehlani

Similar to “I’m The Best,” this one is a self-esteem boost in just under four minutes. The line “I’m too much of a woman” will (and should!) be on repeat in your head for the next week, and it’s especially a worthwhile listen if you have just been broken up with.

5.     “Your Graduation” by Modern Baseball

Although much slower than the other selections on this list, that doesn’t mean this song doesn’t pick a punch. Brendan Lukens, the lead singer, practically spits anger with every single word, and if that doesn’t fire you up, nothing will.

6.     “Mr. Brightside” by The Killers

I know. You’re already rolling your eyes. In all seriousness, this song is one of the best breakup songs that exists. Plus, if you don’t scream the opening line with all your might, then you probably aren’t human.

7.    “ I Write Sins Not Tragedies” by Panic! At The Disco

Similar to “Mr. Brightside,” this song might have you rolling your eyes at first, but your foot will be tapping within the first minute. Not to mention that it’s a nice slam at all the cheaters out there.

8.     “Gives You Hell” by All American Rejects

There’s obviously a theme developing here, but this song is just too good to pass up for this playlist. You can’t argue with me on this one. It’s the perfect anti-love song. Scream the lyrics on this one.

9.     “Hate (I Really Don’t Like You)” by Plain White T’s

Although best known for their song “Hey There Deliah,” the Plain White T’s released this slightly emo banger in 2006, and, for the most part, it’s remained fairly hidden, which is a shame.

10.  “Flavor of The Weak” by American Hi-Fi

This song is so pure 2000 pop punk, it practically could be sung by New Found Glory. It’s like if “Stacy’s Mom” was about a girl whose boyfriend was a jerk (so maybe like “Teenage Dirtbag”?).
