It’s been seven years since moviegoers were invited into the Avatar world, but it looks like the next invitation is on its way.
Director James Cameron made a surprise appearance at 20th Century Fox’s CinemaCon in Las Vegas Thursday and said that he has expanded his plans for the Avatar franchise. He previously planned to make three sequels, but he is ready to add a fourth installment.
“There’s just too much story,” Cameron said. “We have decided to embark on a truly massive cinematic process.”
Cameron said each film will stand alone, but will also create a complete story. As of now, the films will be released during the Christmas season starting in 2018 and ending with Avatar 5 in 2023.
