Age is just a number, right? The old saying rings true for Liza (Sutton Foster) on TV Land’s Younger. Liza is a 40-year-old divorced mother who wants to get back into the working world after she took time off to raise her daughter. No one wanted to hire an older woman, so Liza lied about her age. She is now a 26-year-old assistant at a publishing house. Fans of the show get to watch Liza find her passion at work, struggle with keeping her age a secret and watch her fall in love with a younger guy. And let me tell you, it’s amazing!
I heard about Younger after the first season was already over, so I went ahead and watched it online. I was hooked after the first episode. With just 30 minute episodes, I watched the whole season in one night…and it was worth it. I was anxiously awaiting the second season premiere and it didn’t disappoint.
The characters in this show are fantastic. Creator and producer Darren Star, also creator of Sex and the City, gives each character so many different facets that you can’t help but be intrigued. As I continued watching, I realized that I could relate to all the characters in some way which drew me in even more.
Each episode is full of emotion, conflict and comedy, but there is a perfect balance. Although Liza is the main character, the larger story is so fluid that most events in the show affect each character so viewers get to experience emotion, conflict and comedy on a larger scale. One of the best comedic aspects of the show is watching Liza struggle to learn how to use new technology. Social media plays such a huge role in this show, which makes it even more relatable, and Star uses that as comedic relief through Liza’s journey.
And let’s not forget to mention her hunky man, Josh (Nico Tortorella). There’s really only one word to describe his character: perfect. He’s sweet, insanely talented, and loves Liza for who she really is. Who wouldn’t fall in love?
Younger is a “feel good” show. There’s no crime to be solved or murderer to be found. It’s just a great story, fun characters and exciting twists and turns. You can catch Younger on Wednesdays at 10p.m. on TV Land.
