George Clooney Takes Over ‘Downton Abbey’ in Hilarious Spoof

By Julia Ricci
George Clooney, ahem, George Oceans Gravity, Marquis of Hollywood, has finally arrived at Downton Abbey in a hilarious spoof for ITV’s “Text Santa” charity fundraiser.

In the It’s A Wonderful Life-inspired sketch, Lord Grantham (Hugh Bonneville) loses the family fortune (again) and wishes he’d never been born. With the help of an angel (Joanna Lumley, Absolutely Fabulous), he sees how life at Downton has gone to “rack and ruin” without him. But what looks like rack and ruin to him seems to be loads of fun for everyone else—even Carson (Jim Carter).

This farcical alternate universe sees the Downton ladies buying intimate undergarments from network neighbor Mr. Selfridge (Jeremy Piven); the servants drinking and playing strip poker; and Clooney’s Lord Hollywood, Grantham’s replacement, causing the Dowager Countess (Maggie Smith) to swoon so strongly she ends up on the floor! Even Downton’s creator Julian Fellowes gets in on the fun and pokes fun at his own show in an amusing cameo.

Watch the mayhem unfold below.
