Jennifer Lawrence can add ‘singer’ to her resume for a song featured in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1. The song, “The Hanging Tree,” was featured in the book as well as the film, which made Lawrence very nervous to record it. She broke down in tears the day she had to record it due to how nervous she was. Little did she know, she had nothing to be nervous about. As the movie has went on to be an unsurprisingly box office success, both the original score and the Lorde curated soundtrack have gone on to be chart toppers. “The Hanging Tree” peaked at the number 14 spot on the U.K. Singles chart and the number 12 spot on the ARIA chart (Australia). Industry experts expect the track to debut in the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 when the charts get updated Wednesday, December 3. The song is currently number 3 on the iTunes Top Singles chart (December 1, 2014).
“The Hanging Tree” is written by Hunger Games author Suzanne Collins and Jeremiah Fraites and Wesley Schultz of The Lumineers. The song is arranged by James Newton Howard, who has scored all the other films in the series.
