George Clooney Is Dashing As Ever in ‘Downton Abbey’ Teaser

Just call him Sir George.

ITV has released a first look at a one-off Downton Abbey holiday charity sketch featuring George Clooney, who looks quite handsome in a snappy 1920s three-piece suit.

The eight-second teaser isn’t enough time to give away hints of Clooney’s character, but we do see Lady Cora (Elizabeth McGovern) mistake him for her husband Lord Grantham (Hugh Bonneville).

According to The Independent, the Downton cast did not know if Clooney’s appearance was certain until the actor showed up on set. Actress Laura Carmichael, who plays Lady Edith, admitted that the cast of the show was star struck by his visit, and even revealed a little spoiler about his role on the British daytime show This Morning in September.

“There’s a very brilliant moment with Maggie [Smith] and George – I don’t know if I want to give away any more than that really – but George wants a kiss and Maggie ends up on the floor, it’s wonderful,” she said.

The short film, part of ITV’s “Text Santa” charity fundraiser, will air December 19. Season 5 of Downton Abbey will premiere in the U.S. January 4 on PBS.
