Kathy Griffin to Host 2014 Daytime Emmys

By Eli Ralston

With the 41st Annual Daytime Emmys not being broadcast on television this year, it’s probably a good thing that Kathy Griffin has been name its host. She will have quite a bit more leeway for some more risque jokes with the show being streamed online instead of on a network.

Being an Emmy winner herself, the well-known comedian was named emcee of the show on June 13. It will stream live online on the Emmys’ website from the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Sunday, June 22nd.

Griffin joked in a statement, “I am beyond thrilled to be hosting what I’m told is the most important television event of the year. Knowing that over 100 million people from every corner of the planet will be watching, I will try to keep my nerves at bay and deliver a great show, I can only hope that at the end of the evening, critics and fans alike will compare it to the experience they once had watching Neil Armstrong take man’s first step on the moon. My only regret is knowing that this epic evening will distract millions of viewers from enjoying this year’s World Cup. I apologize to FIFA.”

The show had been broadcast on the HLN  network the last two years, but this year it will be exclusively online this year after a deal with the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences could not be struck. But for you red carpet junkies, don’t be alarmed, because the pre-show festivities can still be viewed live at www.daytimeemmys.net beginning at 5 p.m. ET, with the ceremony scheduled to start at 8 p.m. ET.
