Assassins’ Creed Movie Announced

By Aly Bartholomew

Yes, gamers, it is true. An Assassin’s Creed movie is currently in pre-production and it is predicted to be in theatres in the summer of 2015. For fans of the exciting video game series, this is great news to say the least.

According to Forbes.com, fans are excited for this movie’s potential but also a little worried, considering the track record of other video games that have been turned into films. Movies like Tomb Raider and Prince of Persia have been decent, but not amazing.

For those unfamiliar with the Assassin’s Creed games, the story follows Desmond Miles, a descendent of a long line of assassins. Using a machine called “the animus” he is able to relive the memories of his ancestors to find mystical artifacts.

The games heavily incorporate famous people and places from history, making the story incredibly engaging. There are currently several games in the Assassin’s Creed series, but the movie will most likely focus on the first game featuring Desmond’s ancestor, Altair.

There is still quite a while before the movie is in theatres, but fans are keeping their fingers crossed. The game’s creator, Ubisoft, plans to participate in the adaptation of the film, which may appease fans. In addition, writers Bill Collage and Adam Cooper are currently working on the movie’s script, starring Michael Fassbender as Desmond Miles. Hopefully fans will hear more about this film as pre-production continues.
